Well, considering that I am typing all this from his house... yes I am sure that I have access to the internet. And like I have said, I have tried all that many times. I have changed stuff on my computer even and I know that my computer isn't the problem.

Try running Guild Wars with the -diag switch. That will do you a nice little tracert amongst other things.

As an aside, being stuck at "Connecting to ArenaNet..." seems to be flavor of the month in here :/

I did the -diag switch and I have the log. I just tried bypassing the modem and I still was not able to connect to Guild Wars.

By bypassing the modem, I hope you mean you bypassed the router. Bypassing modem will guarantee you're unable to connect to the GW servers. If you did try bypassing your router by hooking directly to the modem then try setting the TCP/IP4 settings to obtain IP automatically and same for DNS servers. And try disabling the firewall on your computer.

If this doesnt work, it could be the ISP, I know they don't support online gaming so they might just block the ports. Its possible the person you spoke to at the ISP didn't know it was blocked or are just suppose to say its not blocked. Trying OpenDNS.org servers for DNS might bypass it, but it could be a firewall at the NOC you're using, which would mean no GW.

Also be sure to check your hosts file in c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc if anything is there, rename the file to hosts.bak and try to connect. The GW servers seem to be 216.107.245.XXX but that probably depends on where you are.

BTW if the hosts file is redirecting the GW servers I would change your password immediately.

i have had this problem before...it occured when i performed a Remote Desktop Connection to another machine (pc at my workplace) then ran GW on my local machine then quit/closed the Remote Desktop Connection. Dont know what the GW networking code is trying to do but it seems as though GW only ran again when i reconnected to the remote machine even though my local machine does not connect via a proxy. This may be the same error you are experiencing or a different issue completely. Seems as though the .Dat file keeps the Remote machine as a proxy server / gateway that GW tries to connect to and just freezes at the connecting screen with no error being returned. It is reproducible. I have to overwrite my .Dat file with a backup to resolve the issue. Hope this helps.
